Woofer Enclosure

Even though this truck is not an extended cab, there is still plenty of room behind the seat for a woofer enclosure.  The following images are of the space behind the seat before any modifications.

It is my intent to build a woofer enclosure that also houses the system amplifier.  This way the amp will be out of the way, and will also add a visual touch to the otherwise plain woofer "box".

The empty space under the seat may be used for additional enclosure volume, or to house the MB Quart PSD 213 crossovers.

The box was built by first cutting a rear panel, and then building off it.  Ribs were made with the correct contour to fit the steel rear wall of the vehicle, then joined to the bottom and back panels.  An amp rack was fabricated to fit between two ribs, and mounting holes were drilled, then T-nuts installed.  This way the amp can be removed without destroying the mounting holes.  The steps in the construction are shown below.

The oval cutouts near the top are storage compartments.  The box had two dead air spots in it near the top, so back panels were installed and access holes cut.  This will at least partially make up for the loss of space caused by the box over the factory storage solution.  Now that the box had been built, the slow process of finishing began.

The result of several hours filling and sanding is shown below.  The box was then painted to match the interior of the vehicle.

The box was bolted into the truck using stainless steel lag bolts.  This ensures that it will remain put in an accident, or when slamming the plow into a snow bank.

Now that the box was installed, all remaining components were attached to it.  The crossovers were screwed in, along with the woofers.  Finally the amp was bolted in over the crossovers.
